The Good Luck LadySynopsis
A young man recollects the year 1946 when he lived in an unnamed Polish city severely affected by the Second World War fighting. He lost his family and turned into a shabby urchin shamelessly participating in various thefts. First he helped an elderly man steal equipment from the houses whose tenants had not returned. Then he met Dora, a pretty girl who also had no scruples. Together, they went to a cinema, which had miraculously survived among the ruined houses. They also stole together. One night, they broke into a shoe and clothing storehouse. Dora tried on some shoes but eventually viciously scattered everything around. Someone interrupted the couple and the young man was arrested. When he returns from the youth custody centre, things are completely different. The girl was pregnant with him before his arrest. She soon married a young guy who often drove through the town on a motorcycle with a sidecar. She gave birth to a son but soon after, she and her husband died in a car accident while on a wild motorcycle ride. The little boy is now cared for by her father. When the narrator meets them on the street, he only greets them and walks on by.
