A new professor, shy Karel Suchý, takes up a position at a girl's gymnasium. From the very beginning he becomes the object of the students' mischievous interest. The inventing of new mischief is led by Věra Matysová, niece of the landlady at whose place the young professor lives as a bachelor. The student bets the entire class that she will get a kiss from the new professor. She succeeds in doing this during a school performance, where she stands in for the role of her professor, Mrs. Plášilová. Young Karel begins to take an interest in Věra, but her flirtation with Rudolf Junek, the owner of an estate, bothers him. When Professor Suchý returns from a short stay in Prague, he is transformed - thanks to the solicitude of friends - into the picture of elegance. He gains the upper hand over his rival. In addition, it comes out that Junek is a swindler. Věra wins the schoolmaster of her dreams.
