Synopsis

A simple village girl is chosen for vocation of Pythian priestess at Delphi temple, from whose mouth people on feasts hear of various predictions and oracles. Such a woman has to be immaculate and women like this may not be living at Delphi any more. The girl changes a usual common black shirt for the festive white one and the old woman brings her to the temple. There she uses to sit in a dark room and influenced by smoke from the crack at the rock and burnt herbs she shouts for common people unintelligible exclamations. She uses to return to her parents and after her mother is dying she for some time looks after her father's household. At that time she meets a young man and learns physical love as well. After returning to the temple, when some time is passing, she is unmistakably in the family way. She became untrue to her vocation therefore the old woman places to her bosom while sleeping the poisonous serpent.
