Anděla is getting old, working on the farm all by herself. At harvest time each year Michal, who loves her and wants to marry her, comes to help her out. Anděla keeps refusing him. When the harvest is over Anděla is sick and has to go to hospital. She returns home weakened in the autumn but doesn't change her attitude towards Michal and the farming cooperative. She will keep on toiling on her own.
