Summary

Václav Táborský's ironic short film Holiday is a compilation of small episodes of campers in a large campsite by the water. With help of skillful editing and associative montage, the director found new and entertaining relationships between the scenes, for example comparing the sunbathing campers with grilled chicken. The dynamics of the film, which went on without dialogues, was created by a jazz song, its lively beat reminding us that a holiday does not always have to be a break from the rush of everyday life. The filming took place at the Vranov Dam and the Senec Dam near Bratislava.

Synopsis

Another car arrives at the camp by the water. The campers are getting settled in their tents that have been set up. A man sitting in a folding chair watches women in the camp using binoculars. By the fire, the campers smoke, drink and play the guitar; one of the men makes sure his car is locked. The lights in the tents slowly die out. In the morning, the campers leave their tents again. A group of men take pictures, other campers swim, children throw balls of wet sand at each other on the shore. While one group plays badminton together, a young man carries a girl in his arms among the bushes. A long queue forms at the Pramen kiosk. The campers cook their lunch on small gas cookers. They try to protect themselves from the sunheat. Children play in the water and slide down a slide. In the evening, a pot boils on the fire. A married couple sit in a tent, shots of their shadows alternate with shots of housework and office work. The holiday ends and the cars leave the campsite.
