Synopsis

A village teacher and his wife are awaiting the arrival of a new young colleague. The teacher is worried in case he is like his predecessors who were not patriotic and were fond of speaking German. The evening approaches and the young man finally enters the room. The teacher realizes from his first few words that he is a loyal patriot. He also, however, needs to ensure that he is a good musician. The young teacher plays on a few instruments but he prefers the violin. The old teacher is reluctant to lend him his valuable instrument. He, himself, plays the piano. It turns out that the young man is an excellent musician and thus his older colleague is glad to welcome him to the school.
