A husband and wife are preparing dinner. The wife also lays out a third place setting. The husband wonders whether or not he is to accept the awaited male guest. He has been released from prison and, even though he has been certified as fully rehabilitated, his visit might cause complications. The man knows that the expected one-time friend had not been accepted by other families. They are all afraid that he might want something from them. When the guest rings the doorbell, the man does not get up to open the door. The woman feels uneasy but when she eventually goes to the door herself, it is too late. The guest has gone.
