It is the last day in the year that also the guards of the frontier want to spend in jollity and with their friends and families. But the senior sergeant Poncar misses his wife who is taken ill before the New Year's Eve. In addition, he gets a notice that in the night there will come an inspection. Before its arrival it is necessary to clean a place . Therefore Poncar's deputy cannot leave for his parents and Kučera's girlfriend whom the soldiers secretly conceal at the station has to leave. When all is in good order the telephone announces that the inspection will not come. Reconciled Poncar drinks to his subordinates with the New Year.
