A semi-documentary essay derived from recorded interviews with Czech director, František Vláčil (19. 2. 1924 – 27. 1. 1999), conducted in 1997 and 1998 in his flat. The director recollects the past and speaks of the principles of film making and of various circumstances of his own films rise. His responses are combined with contemporary shots of the places where Vláčil shot his films. Sound excerpts from the following films by František Vláčil were used in the film: Marketa Lazarová (1967), Valley of the Bees (1967) and Adelheid (1969).
