Synopsis

Vojta and his Prague cousin Pepíček are spending the summer holidays together. They make friends with Anežka from the neighbouring cottage. Both boys are interested in flying and they try to put together a model airplane. They are also drawn to the local sports airfield where the pilot Heyduk works. One evening Heyduk flies over the village in a new type of helicopter known as the Dragon-fly. To the boys the machine looks like something from another world and they decide to explore this strange sight. During their search they cause various damage but see their punishment for this as unjust and decide to escape to an island. Anežka goes over to visit them to try and persuade them to come back. While she is still on the island her boat floats away. Heyduk lands the helicopter on the island that evening and helps the children get home. One day, when the boys are taking Anežka to see her grandmother in Koniklece they see the Dragon-fly unattended at the airfield. They climb inside and involuntarily start it up. Vojta takes the controls and flies Anežka to Koniklece. When he tries to land for the second time, however, he crashes and damages the undercarriage. Heyduk doesn't tell the boys off and informs no-one of what has happened. Vojta, ashamed of his actions, owns up himself. In the night, however, he steals out of the house and goes to help the pilot repair the machine. The next day the Dragon-fly is up in the air once more.
