Summary

An explanation of the principle of radio broadcasting.

Synopsis

The beginning of the film features Hurvínek who introduces himself as the hero of the film - the Ubiquitous Fellow. The Ubiquitous Fellow the Traveller travels through outer space to the Moon. He is attracted to the Earth by radio waves, which eventually lead him as far as to the central operation room of the radio. There, he meets the Queen of Radio Waves and is shown around her entire kingdom - the studio of a radio station. She explains to him the principle of radio broadcasting and distributing the radio waves, which he encountered in outer space and which took him as far as to the radio station. In the end, the Ubiquitous Fellow returns to his Moon and keeps listening to the broadcasting of various radio stations during his journey through space.

Note

The film contains passages from the German picture Die Rundfunktechnik I. – IV. Teil (1930), which was distributed in Czechoslovakia in 1930 under the title Radio Technology (Commerz-Film Berlin). Several passages explaining the distribution of sound waves are identical with some scenes in the film "Radio Technology" (Technika rozhlasu, 1939, Czech Radio). One of the surviving copies was adapted for the Protectorate distribution: the Czech opening titles were replaced by bilingual ones (the Czech and German title of the film, respectively); information about the authors was left out, and Czech Radio was stated as the executive producer of the film (the company hitherto operating the local radio broadcasting was renamed Czech Radio, Ltd., on 10 June 1939). The traditional jingle of Czechoslovak Radio in the audio track was left out and only the “Hello, Hello” remained. The available sources contain no information about the decision leading to this intervention. The changes in the original copy, submitted for censorship proceedings in 1936, were found during the process of comparing this copy with the copy sent by Irena Dodalova from Argentina in 1989.
