In the middle of a terrible mess in a Prague gallery dwelling the drunk expectant father Böhm is sleeping off a hangover. When he wakes up he omits all personal hygiene and after he gets dressed he sets out from the flat to the city. He rebuffs the porter Rzounková who asks about his wife in the maternal hospital. He is also rude to a woman whom he bluffly pushes away from a telephone box. He calls the maternal hospital and learns he has got a four-kilo son. Then he goes to celebrate immediately to his favourite pub. He treats the barflies and the celebration goes on for several days. Then the angry Rzounková comes to call his attention to the fact his wife with the child came back home. The dirty and drunk Böhm rushes to the room. His tiny wife reacts for the first time and does not let him in. The insulted young man hangs about pubs again and he sleeps in a shelter. Maybe he realizes himself how absurd he is, maybe it helps him when his colleague Kalous tells him that a real man can swallow even a slap. Böhm comes back home with a bunch of flowers and a box of baby clothes which was bought for him by the waitress Jarmila. After he takes a bath and shaves, his wife Jiřina allows him to see her pride - the little son Robert.
