Synopsis

First lieutenant Lukáš is transferred with Švejk to the march battalion in České Budějovice. On the way he causes Lukáš some embarrassment with their bald superior who is travelling in civilian dress. He is then thrown off the train for pulling the safety chord and is taken before the station superintendent. Švejk's fine is paid by a man who was overjoyed to have been catapulted into the arms of his beloved when Švejk pulled the emergency chord. Švejk sets off for Budějovice on foot. His journey is characterised by many humorous incidents. After arriving at the barracks the regiment, along with Švejk and Lukáš, is sent to Hungary where the latter has various adventures with Mrs Kakony. Finally the unit arrives with Švejk at the Russian front. (According to promotional material issued at the time the film was made.)

Note

In 1930 director Martin Frič put together a film (3,200 m) from another three films about Švejk (Dobrý voják Švejk/The Good Soldier Švejk, Švejk na frontě/Švejk at the Front and Švejk v ruském zajetí/Švejk in Russian Captivity), which, with the title of Osudy dobrého vojáka Švejka/The Fates of the Good Soldier Švejk, had its première on the 20th of June 1930.
