The film draws its inspiration from the fairy-tale The Wisdom and the Fortune by K. J. Erben. The makers of the film brought into the sotry the third entity. The Envy, that "immortal aunt" who attempts to destroy by envy not only the entire kingdom but also the love between Princess Pavlínka and the young fellow Matěj as well. The evil of envy must be disposed but the question who of those two, the Wisdom or the Fortune, is more important for the humans, remains.
