Radek Turnovský, Ondra Kovář and Pavel Vítovec indirectly cause an accident in which their schoolmate Zdeněk Fábera ends up under a truck and is seriously hurt. The boys run off. Radek soon becomes conscientious and worried about Zdeněk. He seeks help from his father, but the old man has neither the time nor temper to listen. He himself experiences an annoying conflict in the factory and moreover rushes to the rehearsal of the factory orchestra. In the meantime, Ondra hides on the roof, waiting for the results. Pavel confesses to his father, but his reaction, too, is disappointing: the father is afraid that the accident would affect his position in the bank. Therefore, he orders Pavel to keep his mouth shut. To make sure, he locks him in his room and does not even allow Radek to see him. Radek runs to the Fáberas', but no one is at home. Although it is evening already, the desperate Radek decides to go directly to the hospital. There he finally learns that Zdeněk underwent successful surgery and will live. The hard day ends well, after all. And in the front of the hospital, Radek's father is waiting for the boy. They both are sure now that they are going to understand each other better in the future.
